The Ferrari 12Cilindri, Maranello's new two-seater Berlinetta powered by a mid-front-mounted naturally aspirated V12 engine, is the perfect embodiment of the prancing horse's DNA, offering unrivalled performance and handling with sophisticated, sculptural design. The 830bhp Ferrari 12Cilindri is aimed at connoisseurs of the legendary V12 engine and is inspired by the Ferrari Gran Turismo cars of the 1950s and 1960s. It offers typical racing driving pleasure paired with versatility. The 12Cilindri is the natural evolution of the company's uncompromising drive philosophy, which has thrilled fans of the „Prancing Horse“ since the very first Ferrari engine thundered through the factory gates in Maranello in 1947. The 12Cilindri is an effortless combination of elegance, versatility and performance 12Cilindri continues this unique heritage and sets new standards in terms of performance, comfort and design.
Design
With the Ferrari 12Cilindri, Flavio Manzoni and the Ferrari Centro Stile design team set out to radically change the stylistic codes of the earlier Ferrari V12 models with a centre-front engine. Clean lines dominate the geometry of the car, emphasising the volumes that form a seamless whole. The ultra-clean flanks run from a V-neckline along the entire vehicle to the rear. While retaining the sensuality typical of Ferrari, the wings have been moulded with extreme geometric precision: All the lines are the result of intersections between the volumes, and a more functional approach to form has been adopted, reflecting nostalgia. The muscular rear wing is imposing, but also geometrically perfectly controlled. On the front wing, this muscular tension expands slightly, coming to a halt along the flank and further emphasising the car's monolithic aesthetic. The silhouette of the 12Cilindri radiates sportiness and class: Simple but harmonious lines, an integrated active aerodynamic device guaranteeing unrivalled performance, a bonnet that opens forwards to reveal the engine compartment, and the two twin tailpipes that have become the hallmark of the 12 by Ferrari -cylinder car.
Engine
The F140HD engine in the Ferrari 12Cilindri is the latest evolution of the legendary V12 engine that laid the foundations for the Maranello legend. In this version, it unleashes 830 hp and the top speed rises to an exhilarating 9,500 rpm. It is combined with the eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, which was unanimously enthusiastically received on other vehicles in this series. The engine features modified components and software, some of which have already been adopted in the special 812 Competizione series, and secures it a top position in its category in terms of performance. To enable the V12 to rev so high, engineers worked to reduce the weight and inertia of the engine components, including the use of titanium connecting rods, lighter aluminium alloy pistons and the introduction of a rebalanced crankshaft. Most of the modifications focused on optimising torque delivery under all operating conditions. The result is an engine with exhilaratingly smooth, seamless response that delivers peak power at the red line. An innovative software strategy has been developed that delivers a truly unique sense of driving pleasure through a crescendo of never-ending acceleration and power and the purest tones of the characteristic Ferrari sound right up to the limiter.
Chassis & dynamics
The Ferrari 12Cilindri was designed for connoisseurs with a very clear vision of what Ferrari's DNA has always been, making it truly a car for the few. Ferrari engineers wanted to build a simple, elegant car without compromising on performance. The 12Cilindri features the state-of-the-art dynamic steering of the front-engined Berlinetta, including elements carried over from other cars in the range such as the 296 GTB, and features the all-wheel independent steering system (4WS) first introduced on the special 812 Competizione series. The rear-wheel steering has innovative mechanical features that significantly improve the precision of the control of the position of each individual actuator, resulting in a faster axle response time and therefore better responsiveness in corners. Optimum handling is also guaranteed thanks to an almost ideal weight distribution, and the car's responsiveness also benefits from the 20 mm reduction in wheelbase compared to the 812 Superfast. The all-aluminium chassis of the Ferrari 12Cilindri is completely new: particular attention has been paid to the geometry of cast components such as the shock absorber bridges and the A and C pillars in order to improve torsional rigidity and reduce weight at the same time. In the low-drag position, many elements are designed to be flush with the bodywork, optimising the vehicle's aerodynamics while maintaining a clean design. In the high downforce configuration, on the other hand, the 12Cilindri generates maximum downforce and guarantees that the vehicle is aerodynamically balanced. The heat dissipation requirements of the engine and ancillaries necessitated a redesign of the vehicle's entire cooling system, resulting in optimised extraction of the front underbody with no fewer than seven openings in the front bumper.
Interior
The cockpit of the Ferrari 12Cilindri guarantees maximum comfort for driver and co-driver, even on long journeys: the feeling of airiness and spaciousness is further enhanced by a glass roof, fine materials and a central display in addition to one for driver and co-driver a third in front of the passenger. The interior style is inspired by the double cockpit architecture of the Cavallino Rampante, which has been used in recent years for the Ferrari Roma, Roma Spider and Purosangue models. The cabin of the 12Cilindri has an almost symmetrical structure, consisting of two modules for driver and passenger, offering an amazing standard of comfort and involvement in the driving experience.
This beautiful 1/8th scale model of the Ferrari 12Cilindri, painted in Rosso Imola with Blu Sterling interior, was handcrafted in our workshops and finished using confidential CAD data from the Ferrari Centro Stile team, allowing us to perfectly replicate every detail at scale. It was handcrafted and finalised in our workshops with the collaboration and support of Ferrari in terms of original finishes, materials, archive images and drawings. It has also undergone detailed testing by the engineering and design teams to ensure complete accuracy of representation.
