Timossi Ferrari Arno XI 1953 motorboat 1/18 scale Nando dell Orto - prototype
The Arno XI, an icon of power and speed, is a record-breaking hydroplane built in 1953 by Cantieri Timossi for Achille Castoldi. This jewel of motorboat sport is powered by a 4.5-litre Ferrari V12 engine, the same one used in the Ferrari 375 Formula 1 racing car and equipped with two superchargers. On 15 October 1953, Castoldi set a world speed record for motorised seaplanes on Lake Iseo with a speed of 242.708 km/h. This record remains unbroken to this day.
The Arno XI was later acquired by Nando Dell'Orto, a passionate engineer and motorboat racer. Dell'Orto not only continued to race the hydroplane successfully, but also significantly improved the aerodynamics, helping to maintain the boat's competitiveness. In the 1960s, Dell'Orto won numerous victories with the Arno XI, including the 1960 European Championship, thus consolidating the legend of this extraordinary seaplane. The Arno XI embodies the perfect combination of precision engineering and the craftsmanship of Cantieri Timossi - a masterpiece that has left its mark on the history of motorboat racing.
