The LaFerrari, the first Ferrari production car to be equipped with a hybrid system, was Maranello's most ambitious project to date and pushed the boundaries of road car technology. „TheFerrari“ represented the best expression of Ferrari's technical prowess in both GT and Formula 1 engineering, boasting the most extreme performance ever achieved by a road-legal Ferrari, and its impact is still felt in the rest of the Ferrari range today. Produced for just 499 highly discerning customers, the LaFerrari follows in the famous footsteps of its limited edition predecessors - the 288 GTO, F40, F50 and Enzo - and is strongly reminiscent of the great Ferraris of the past, including the 330 P4 and 312P.
The F1-derived hybrid system, known as the HY-KERS system, seamlessly combined extreme performance with maximum efficiency and was more advanced and complex than the KERS system used by the Scuderia's Formula 1 cars. The naturally aspirated 6.3-litre V12 combustion engine, already the most powerful incarnation of Ferrari's classic V12 to date, was combined with a 150 hp electric motor to produce a staggering 960 hp. This electric motor delivered uninterrupted power across the entire rev range and a maximum torque peak of over 900 Nm. The combined powertrain was designed to deliver constant maximum power while driving, meaning there was no need to activate a separate electric mode. Instead, the combustion and electric units worked in perfect harmony at all times, with energy harvested through a variety of systems, including braking and traction control, and stored in a 132-pound battery pack. This hybrid system accelerated the LaFerrari to 200 km/h in less than seven seconds and reached a top speed of 349 km/h, making it the fastest road-going Ferrari in the brand's history. The F1 seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox was coupled to the electric motor and an additional electric motor replaced the conventional alternator, saving weight and reducing the size of the unit.
The architecture of the LaFerrari represented the pinnacle of innovation, even by Ferrari's legendary standards. The engineers from Maranello delivered improved aerodynamic efficiency, ideal weight distribution and a lower centre of gravity, all in a sleek body made from four different types of carbon fibre. The curved bodywork, designed entirely in-house by Ferrari's chief designer Flavio Manzoni, incorporated aero technology and many styling elements clearly inspired by Ferrari's Formula 1 programme, such as the front splitter, and GT competition cars, such as the rear spoiler and fog lights. The rear wing and underbody were key components of the active aerodynamics package, which was deployed and retracted in response to vehicle speed, braking, throttle position and steering angle.
This fine 1:18 scale model of the Ferrari LaFerrari is handcrafted and finished in our workshops using CAD direct from Ferrari's design office, allowing us to perfectly replicate every detail at scale. Finally, the prototype model has undergone detailed testing by Ferrari's engineering and design teams to ensure complete accuracy of representation.
