Description

Amalgam Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster (1955) | Limited edition

The idea behind this slimmed-down W194 Grand Prix car, introduced in 1954, can be traced back to the New York Mercedes dealer Max Hoffman, the official importer of Daimler-Benz in the USA. He believed that such a car would appeal to wealthy American enthusiasts of high-performance models. As a result, the new 300 SL was presented at the 1954 New York Auto Show rather than at the motor shows in Geneva or Frankfurt, where Mercedes traditionally presented its new models. *With a top speed of 217 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in around 8.8 seconds, the 300 SL was the fastest production car of its time. It was also the first series-produced model with fuel injection, which doubled the power output from 115 to 212 hp. The 300 SL was an immediate success and a roadster version was also available from 1957 to 1963, to which this model belongs. Around three quarters of the vehicles produced by the German car manufacturer were sold on the US market, confirming the genius of Max Hoffman's original idea.

This high-quality 1:8 scale model of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster was handcrafted in our workshops in co-operation with Mercedes-Benz and refined with true-to-original surfaces, materials, archive images and drawings. Thanks to high-precision digital scans of the original vehicle, we were able to reproduce every detail to scale. In addition, it was subjected to detailed scrutiny by engineering and design teams to ensure an absolutely accurate representation.
