Description

Amalgam Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing (1955) | Limited edition 1:8

The idea behind this slimmed-down W194 Grand Prix car, which came onto the market in 1954, can be traced back to the New York Mercedes dealer Max Hoffman, the official importer of Daimler-Benz in the USA. He believed that such a car would appeal to wealthy American enthusiasts of high-performance vehicles. As a result, the new 300 SL was presented at the 1954 New York Auto Show and not at the Geneva or Frankfurt motor shows, where Mercedes traditionally presented its new models. With a top speed of 217 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in around 8.8 seconds, the 300 SL was the fastest production car of its time. It was also the first series-produced model with fuel injection, which doubled the power output from 115 to 212 hp. The 300 SL was an instant success and became famous for its distinctive gullwing doors. Around three quarters of the units produced by the German manufacturer were sold on the US market, confirming the brilliance of Max Hoffman's original idea.

This high-quality 1:8 scale model of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL was handcrafted and finished in our workshops in co-operation with Mercedes using original surfaces, materials, archive images and drawings. Thanks to high-precision digital scans of the original vehicle, we were able to reproduce every detail to scale. It was also subjected to detailed scrutiny by engineering and design teams to ensure an absolutely accurate representation.
