Martisan Ferrari 250 LM Winner 24H Le Mans France 1965 Asia Version
In 1965, N.A.R.T. named the Ferrari 250 LM as the winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans for Masten Gregory and Jochen Rindt with chassis 5893. The vehicle came to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum in 1970. Rindt competed in the Indy 500; his breakthrough was the victory at Le Mans in 1965. Shortly afterwards, he was given the opportunity to join N.A.R.T., a Ferrari semi-works team run by Luigi Chinetti, the most important Ferrari dealer in the USA.
Rindt only received clearance two days before the race; his car ran on Shell petrol instead of BP. Masten Gregory (‚Catastrophe Gregory‘) was his partner, who had previously often retired due to brake faults. At the beginning they were far behind after defects, but Gregory persuaded Rindt to continue, who drove at full throttle. Three Ford cars had retired early, disc brakes kept the works Ferraris on their toes. By midnight, they were in 13th place and Rindt was making up position after position. At dawn, the Ferrari led for the first time, but in the end Gregory had to take the wheel. The gearbox failed on the final lap. „It was good that Masten finished the race,“ summarised Rindt.
Martisan is building the Martisan Ferrari 250 LM, winner of the 1965 24 Hours of Le Mans, as a European version in the familiar Martisan quality. The models are faithfully modelled on the original. They comprise over 2100 parts, 95 per cent of which are made of metal (mostly brass). The bodywork is made of sheet copper, the windows of tempered glass.
