Developed to mark Ferrari's 50th anniversary, the F50 represents a car that was closer to a Formula 1 racing car than any other road model from the brand at the time. Through its uncompromising focus on pure performance and a purist driving experience, the sports car deliberately dispenses with driver assistance systems such as power steering, brake boosters and ABS.

Instead, the construction is characterised by the extensive use of highly developed composite materials and specific aerodynamics and manufacturing techniques from professional motorsport. The final production number is based on a thorough market study that predicted a worldwide demand of 350 vehicles. In accordance with Enzo Ferrari's traditional philosophy, that the perfect number of units should always be exactly one less than the actual market demand, production was ultimately set at a strictly limited 349 units.
