Chassis 3767GT, painted in BP racing green, originally belonged to David Piper, a Formula 1 and Formula 2 racing driver. When he was no longer interested in monoposti, he decided to enter the sports car class in 1962 with the 250 GTO. At the end of the year, he achieved overall victories in the 9 Hours of Kyalami and the Angolan Grand Prix. At the beginning of the following season, the car was sold to the United States, although Piper continued to race occasionally with new owner Ed Cantrell. After the 1964 Nassau Speed Week, the car ceased to participate in contemporary racing and was acquired by the current owner in 1974. In recent years it has been a regular at Goodwood
