Description of the original vehicle:
In 1938, a racing formula came into force that limited the engine capacity of racing cars with superchargers to 3 litres. This changed regulation characterised the racing events of the following years.
Mercedes-Benz developed a completely new 12-cylinder V-engine with 485 hp for the W 154. The transmission was given a 5th gear and, as in the W 125, was located directly on the D-Dion rear axle. One fuel tank was located in the rear, a second in the cockpit above the driver's legs.
Racing drivers Rudolf Caracciola, Hermann Lang, Manfred von Brauchitsch and Seaman drove the W154 from victory to victory. Rudolf Caracciola became European champion in 1938. And there was even a triple triumph at the French Grand Prix: von Brauchitsch was the winner, Caracciola came second and Hermann Lang took third place. In 1939, Hermann Lang replaced Caracciola as European champion with the further developed W154.
