Description

Amalgam Ferrari Dino 246 GTS (1972) | Euro Edition.

The Dino 246 GTS is considered one of the most beautiful road-going Ferraris of all time and was the cousin of the 246 GT with targa roof, which itself was the more powerful successor to the 206 GT. It was a delight from all angles and its combination of beauty, handling, V6 engine sound, mid-engine layout, unusually good all-round visibility and comparatively favourable price made it irresistible. Enzo envisioned the Dino as a rival to Porsche's new 911 and it was a real statement of concept and design for the Italian marque, having previously only built front-engined V12 sports cars.

The original Dino 206 GT was introduced in 1967 with a two-litre V6 engine, before being replaced in 1969 by a more powerful version with a 2.4-litre V6 in the Dino 246. With 195 hp, the 246 was lively and had a mid-engine in the rear The configuration ensured light steering and excellent balance. Visually, the 246 GT was almost identical to its successor, the 206 GT, although the engine block material was changed from aluminium to cast iron and the wheelbase was extended by 60 mm. With the sale of the Dino 246 GT in 1972, Ferrari tried to increase its popularity even further by introducing an open-top version. The design retained the individual, attractive lines of the 264 GT, with the added benefit of a practical targa top for open-air driving.
