Often referred to as the „most famous car in the world“, the Aston Martin DB5 Vantage is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful cars ever built and is often described as the most attractive car built by the British marque. It is certainly one of the most popular, thanks largely to its now eternal association with a certain international spy agent.
The DB5 built between 1963 and 1965 was visually almost identical to the previous DB4. However, the most significant change to the DB5 took place under the bonnet: the introduction of a 3995 cc naturally aspirated in-line six-cylinder engine producing 282 hp and 280 Nm, with power being sent to the rear wheels via a ZF five-speed synchronised gearbox and a robust Borg & Beck clutch. It was the first time this engine had been used by Aston Martin in a road car, having first been used in the Lagonda Rapide (based on Aston's DB4) and the Aston Martin DP215, the 1963 Le Mans endurance racing car. Chassis changes included the introduction of Girling disc brakes, which were only used on the DB4 GT, and 15-inch wheels. Many other improvements were integrated, including electric windows and two hydraulic brake servos. Inside, the new car was more luxurious than any Aston before. Normalair air conditioning was available as an option. However, due to the numerous modernisations, the DB5 weighed over 100 kg more than the car it replaced. However, the larger engine ensured that everything stayed on track and the 0-60mph time was reduced to around 8 seconds.
The DB5 achieved worldwide fame when it was used as the James Bond car in the film „Goldfinger“, as well as in a number of other James Bond films, and eventually spawned a special Aston Martin Works creation called the „Goldfinger Continuation“, which was built in 2020. The association with James Bond was a marketer's dream, the perfect example of product placement that almost didn't materialise: Jaguar's E-Type was the preferred choice, but Jaguar rejected EON, and Aston Martin's owner David Brown was also initially reluctant to supply a DB5. The rest is history, and James Bond's gadget-laden Silver Birch DB5 became an immortal screen phenomenon.
This fine 1:18 scale model of the Aston Martin DB5 Vantage features an exterior in iconic Silver Birch with an all-black interior. The DB5 Vantage engine followed in the footsteps of the successful DB4 GT and featured an upgraded high compression cylinder head, modified cam timing and three Weber twin choke carburettors. Power also increased to 325 bhp, forty more than the standard engine, and accelerated from 0 to 60 miles per hour (0 to 96.5 km/h) in 6.5 seconds. Aston Martin only produced 65 DB5 Vantages, of which around 40 were right-hand drive.
This model has been handcrafted and finished in our workshops with the co-operation and support of Aston Martin in terms of original finishes, materials, archive images and drawings. The use of original CAD and extremely accurate digital scanning of the original car has enabled us to perfectly replicate every detail in scale. In addition, the prototype model was subjected to detailed scrutiny by the manufacturer's engineering and design teams to ensure complete accuracy of representation.
Note: This is a „notcheside“ model and has no moving parts.
