Known for the historic slogan „The family car that wins races“, this vehicle, introduced in 1950, marked a technical milestone as it was the first car from the Milanese manufacturer to be produced on an assembly line. Its design combines the classic elegance and practicality of a saloon with the performance of a racing car. This conceptual orientation was confirmed by numerous documented class victories in touring car racing.

The technical layout is based on a classic rear-wheel drive system. Power transmission was via a four- or five-speed gearbox, depending on the version. While early versions were equipped with a steering wheel gear change, the gear lever was moved to the centre tunnel in later models to further emphasise the sporty characteristics. In addition to widespread use in the civilian sector, the model was also selected as a patrol car for the Italian State Police. There, due to its black paintwork and distinctive, aggressive-looking front end, it was given the nickname „Pantera“ which is still known today.
