The 1964 24 Hours of Le Mans was the 32nd edition of the French endurance classic and took place on 20 and 21 June. Following the 1955 tragedy, the Circuit de la Sarthe was modified, adjusting the track length to 13.461 kilometres. In addition, the pit complex underwent extensive expansion, significantly increasing safety for drivers and teams. The race also marked the ninth round of the then-Sports Car World Championship.

Following a failed attempt by Ford to take over Ferrari the previous year, the American car manufacturer decided to challenge Ferrari on the race track. This event went down in motorsport history as the beginning of a historic rivalry between the two brands.

The present model is an exact replica of the Ferrari 250 GTO, chassis number 5571 GT, with the race number 26. The car, entered by the North American Racing Team (NART), was driven by drivers Ed Hugus and José Rosinski. After a demanding effort, the car had to retire from the race prematurely in the ninth hour. The miniature documents the technical specifications and race history of the car used at the time with the utmost precision.
