The 1960 24 Hours of Le Mans was the 28th Grand Prix of Endurance and took place on 25 and 26 June on the traditional Circuit de la Sarthe. The prospect of a challenging duel between the 3-litre Ferraris and the 2-litre cars of championship leaders Porsche attracted around 200,000 spectators to the 13.5-kilometre track.

With the clear goal of winning the World Championship, Ferrari entered excellently prepared with a total of 13 works and private entries. The Ferrari 250 GT SWB (Short Wheelbase), unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 1959, enjoyed a highly successful motorsport career, securing numerous victories, including notable successes in the Le Mans 24 Hours endurance classic in 1960 and 1961.
