With the 360 Modena Spider, Ferrari presented its twentieth open-top convertible at the Geneva Motor Show in 2000. Despite the distinctive, openly visible V8 rear engine, the designers succeeded in integrating a fully retractable, automatic soft-top into the vehicle.

The 360 Spider's high aerodynamic efficiency was achieved through separate cooling air intakes that channelled airflow specifically under the vehicle and towards the diffusers integrated into the rear. For occupant safety, there are two robust rollover bars that significantly reinforce the structure of the headrests. A key innovation of this model was also the consistent use of aluminium as the primary structural material for the chassis.
