This historic vehicle was presented in 1996 to seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher as a welcome gift upon his move to Maranello. The model, the original of which was auctioned in early 2025, is presented in a configuration reportedly chosen by the German racing driver himself: a Blue Le Mans body, complemented by cream-coloured leather upholstery and a classic manual transmission.

The underlying original, produced from 1994 to 1999, is a two-seater, mid-engined sports car with a V8 engine. The GTS variant, introduced in 1995, retained the coupé's aerodynamic styling but was equipped with a removable hardtop in the classic Targa style. The nomenclature 355 refers to the 3.5-litre displacement and the five-valve-per-cylinder technology. During development, the manufacturer extensively utilised technology transfers from Formula 1. Vehicle technology innovations included electronic fuel injection, a fully panelled flat underbody, and an electronically adjustable suspension with two selectable settings. Extensive aerodynamic studies by Pininfarina ensured optimised airflow both underneath the vehicle and around the passenger cell.
