The F50, developed for Ferrari's 50th anniversary, was the company's most road-going Formula 1 car to date. Due to its uncompromising, purist approach to high performance, the F50 dispensed with power steering, brake boosters and ABS, but made extensive use of highly developed composite materials, construction technology from Formula 1 and sophisticated aerodynamics. The planned number of units was determined on the basis of a market study that predicted 350 potential buyers worldwide. The number was then reduced to 349, in the spirit of Enzo Ferrari, who described this figure as the perfect production number - one unit less than the total quantity required by the market.
