Description of the original vehicle:
The battle of the eternal rivals between Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union continued in 1939. The Auto Union 12-cylinder (Type D) had now become the equal of the Mercedes. The French Grand Prix on 9 July 1939 saw another showdown. Mercedes entered 3 cars with the drivers Caracciola, Lang and von Brauchitsch. Auto Union was represented by 4 cars with the drivers Nuvolari, Stuck, H.P. Müller and Georg „Schorsch“ Meier, who stood in at short notice for the indisposed Hasse.
The race was a tremendous success for Auto Union and ended in disaster for Mercedes with the premature retirement of all three cars.H.P. Müller with start number 12 crossed the finish line as the winner in a new record time of 2 hours 21 minutes and 11 seconds and an average speed of 169.38 km/h, winning his first Grand Prix in this race. His new team-mate, the motorbike racer „Schorsch“ Meier, who was already well known at the time, took a much-acclaimed 2nd place. This result was all the more remarkable after Meier's car suddenly burst into flames during a pit stop on lap 23 due to petrol spillage and Meier had to finish the race with minor burns. His team-mate Georg „Schorsch“ Meier took second place in car no. 14 (model M-090), ensuring a magnificent double victory for the brand with the four rings.
With this one-two victory, Auto Union was able to take impressive revenge on Mercedes for last year's defeat.
CMC has reproduced the two first-placed cars as a limited edition of 1500 each.
