Description

CMC Mercedes-Benz SSK, Autumn Prize of Argentina 1931, Carlos Zatuszek # 14

Carlos Zatuszek competed in the 1931 Autumn Cup of Argentina with starting number 14 and won the 400-kilometre race with a track record. After Berndt and Zatuszek sold their victorious vehicle in 1935, it was used by other racing drivers in Argentina until the 1950s. After that, its traces were lost until it was rediscovered in Argentina. The vehicle components were brought to Germany, where the car was reconstructed and restored to its original red paintwork. CMC had the opportunity to digitally measure the SSK during the restoration and can dedicate an absolutely authentic miniature to this unique model.

HISTORY Mercedes-Benz SSK (ORIGINAL VEHICLE)

This CMC model has a special history. The red-painted model, an SSK built in 1929, was used victoriously by private driver Carlos Zatuszek in endurance races in Argentina. The racing driver, who is still famous in South America today, was born Karol Zatuszek in 1897 in what is now Ukraine. The trained mechanic emigrated to Argentina in 1921 and became an Argentinian citizen in 1931. He drove his first car races in 1927, and two years later his brother-in-law Julio Berndt acquired the Mercedes-Benz SSK, in which Zatuszek raced from victory to victory in the following years. With starting number 14, he entered the 1931 Autumn Cup of Argentina and won the 400-kilometre race with a track record.
