Description of the original vehicle:
Mercedes-Benz demonstrated its strength as early as the final practice session, taking the top three places with Fangio, Moss and Kling. The Mercedes team also immediately took the lead in the race itself. Stirling Moss with starting number 16 had to make an involuntary pit stop on lap 19 due to a smashed windscreen. Moss resumed the race half a lap behind and staged a fierce chase to catch up, which soon brought him back up to seventh place. On lap 21, he sets a sensational lap record of 2:46.9 minutes = 215.7 km/h, which lasts for the rest of the race. Unfortunately, he retired on lap 29 due to a technical defect. Nevertheless, Stirling Moss was able to hold his own at the end of the racing season by winning the runner-up spot in the world championship.
