Description of the original vehicle:

At the end of the 1950s, Porsche began to develop a successor to the 356. The new model was to be superior to the ageing 356 in all respects, but without sacrificing the typical Porsche design.
Porsche's son, Ferdinand Alexander (also known as „Butzi“), was significantly involved in the development. His design won the contract. The new Type 901 was born.
The elegant sports coupé was larger than the 356 and, above all, had generous window areas with excellent all-round visibility.
The interior design was also revised and adapted to the spirit of the 1960s. In addition to more modern technology, the new six-cylinder boxer engine was the most fundamental change to the new car. From a displacement of 2 litres, the engine delivered a whopping 96 KW/130 hp at 6100 rpm. This air-cooled engine with trough sump lubrication already had the sonorous engine sound that would make the later „nine-eleven“ so unmistakable for decades.
On 12 September 1963, Porsche presents the Type 901 at the IAA in Frankfurt as the successor to the Porsche 356. One year later, the model - now ready for series production - is presented to the public at the Paris Motor Show. Peugeot intervenes and has the Porsche designation „901“ banned because of the protected zero in the centre of its own type designation.
Until Porsche reacted, exactly 82 production vehicles with the type designation „901“ left the factory from 14 September 1964, the day production began. After that, the „901“ became the „911“ - the three-digit number sequence that became a legend and still triggers palpitations in every sports car enthusiast today.
Porsche was already thinking about the body shape in the 1950s. The design that was ultimately realised was developed by Porsche's son Ferdinand Alexander. With his clear and simply beautiful design, he succeeded in creating lines that corresponded exactly to the zeitgeist of the sixties - and still have an impact today. Ferry Porsche was absolutely right when he later said: „This type moulded the unmistakable character of the Porsche sports car.“
Even little boys dream of owning a „nine-eleven“ one day. Those who unfortunately couldn't afford one were at least given a miniature as a birthday present by friends, which from then on took pride of place on the shelf.
CMC presents the „forefather“ of the 911 as an impressive precision model of the highest quality. Go on a journey of discovery and enjoy the wealth of model details of this racy coupé.
