History
When CMC decided to build a model of the Talbot Lago Coupé with its Figoni & Falaschi „Teardrop“ bodywork, the pulse of our modellers quickened and the joy of being able to recreate such a work of art was immense. At the same time, however, there was also the challenge and obligation to fulfil this demanding project.
Many experts around the world agree that this vehicle can no longer be judged by the standards normally applied to automobiles. The Talbot Lago, with its bodywork crafted by the famous French sheet metal cutters Figoni & Falaschi, looks like something from another planet. The car is quite simply what we would call „state of the art“ today. When Talbot presented the coupé for the first time at the Paris Motor Show in 1937, onlookers were instantly greeted with almost breathless enthusiasm. The terms „goutte d'eau“ (drop of water) and „teardrop coupé“ (tear drop coupé) were soon coined, neither of which was ever officially used, but both aptly described the extraordinary shape. Everything about this fascinating vehicle and every detail testifies to a deep love of design and matching accessories. Every line, every moulding supports the effect without appearing obtrusive. This car is a harmonious unit - from the narrow front wings to the chrome-plated exhaust tailpipe. Added to this is a luxuriously appointed interior with skilfully crafted fine wood and elegant leather. Under the bonnet of the coupé is a silky-smooth six-cylinder in-line engine with an output of between 140 and 160 hp, depending on the version. Powerful torque guarantees energetic acceleration and good acceleration figures. Just 16 of these cars - each of which differed in barely perceptible or even larger and more conspicuous details - were built between 1937 and 1939. Only around a quarter of these impressive vehicles are still known today, as witnesses to a bygone era when form was everything.
