Description of the original vehicle:

Shortly after the first races, this car shook up the scene, whether on high-speed tracks or winding mountain roads, a GTO is at home on all tracks and capable of extraordinary performance.
This was also the case at the 46th Targa Florio on Sunday, 6 May 1962, when the Italian driving team of Giorgio Scarletti and Pietro Ferraro took part in this endurance race in their Ferrari 250 GTO with its striking two-colour livery and starting number 86. The classic 72 kilometre Madonie (Piccolo) lap was driven 10 times, meaning that a distance of 720 kilometres had to be covered in the end.
The circuit runs on public mountain roads in the greater Palermo area with the start and finish in the town of Cerda and has around 900 bends that demand hours of maximum concentration and driving skills from the drivers. Crowds of people, often dangerously at the side of the road, rock formations, trees and deep chasms are the backdrop for the drivers when it comes to competing for victory on the often bumpy and dusty tracks. The vehicles start individually at 20-second intervals because the narrow roads make a bunch start unthinkable and even overtaking manoeuvres are extremely difficult. An experienced driver can complete the circuit in less than 40 minutes, which corresponds to an average speed of around 100 kilometres per hour.
The GTO team Scarlatti/Ferraro mastered this ordeal superbly and crossed the finish line as winners in the GT class after 7h:22m:8.100s. In the overall classification, this time was good enough for an excellent fourth place.
Yet more proof that the Ferrari 250 GTO is fast becoming a serial winner and has hardly any serious rivals to fear.
