I am always asked about the equipment of the various CMC Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster versions are in demand. It is no wonder that there is a need for clarification here: CMC has outdone itself with this model series and is bringing out different technical features for the various item numbers.

If you want to pre-order such a high-end model, you should know exactly which detail is most important to you. Here is the ultimate overview of the four technical variants:

1. the soft-top versions: Mechanics you can touch

Models: M-294 (green) and M-285 (black)

These variants are a dream for lovers of technical gadgets. They have a Functional soft top made of real fabric, which can be folded and stowed like the original. However, to ensure there is enough space for the soft top mechanism, these models have No crank windows.

2. the classic roadster: focus on the door details

Models: M-282 (red) and M-293 (black)

Those who prefer to present the Roadster open-top will love these versions. They do without the soft top, but shine with a fascinating feature: Fully functional crank windows. A filigree detail that perfectly emphasises CMC's craftsmanship.

3. the hardtop variants: Elegant coupé silhouette

Models: M-283 and M-284

These models are the first choice for collectors who prefer the clear lines of the hardtop. They come with a removable hardtop supplied. It should be noted that these versions do not have an additional soft top and no crank windows.

4. the rally version: uncompromising motorsport

Model: M-295

The Rallye version is the exotic model in the range. In the spirit of motorsport, unnecessary ballast has been dispensed with here: Neither soft top nor hard top or crank window are present. Instead, this model impresses with its specific Rally equipment, which shows the 300 SL from a completely different, rougher side.

    M-285 (33%) & M-283 (29%): Together they dominate the 60% market. The M-285 (black/beige) scores with its fully functional soft top - a mechanical highlight. The M-283 (blue metallic) remains the undisputed king of aesthetics with a hardtop.

  • The solid midfield
    M-284 (18%) & M-282 (11%): Although the classic colours white and red are timeless, they are overshadowed by the new technical features (soft top vs. crank window) of the top models.

  • The exotics 
    M-293 to M-295 (2-4%): The rally version (M-295) and special colour combinations lead a niche existence.

My conclusion: Anyone who has firmly planned for one of the top models such as the M-283 or M-285 should not wait too long. With these high order numbers, it is to be expected that quotas could run out before delivery in summer 2026.

The most important news for all collectors at the end: The anticipation has a concrete time window! The delivery of the different variants by CMC is planned for the period from April 2026 until summer 2026 announced.

As experience has shown that demand for the Roadster models is very high and some versions are already in high demand, I recommend that you commit early.
