It all starts with an idea
Model cars have fascinated me since I was a child. I always attach great importance to the correct shape and detailed design of the models. The 1:8 scale offers impressive models with a length of around 60 cm, which impress with their expressiveness and high level of detail. In combination with our showcases, these models are wonderful design elements.
The models from Amalgam are particularly noteworthy in this scale. They are characterised by quality craftsmanship, with functioning doors and bonnets as well as numerous fine details. The disadvantage, however, is that such models often require a considerable investment.
Kits offer a good alternative here if assembly is easy and painting work is not necessary. This is what the IXO Collection kits offer. All parts are already painted, well organised in separate boxes and easy to screw together. Even inexperienced modellers will get their money's worth here. The model is completed in around 40 to 60 hours. The metal body ensures high dimensional stability and allows the model to shine in all its splendour even after years of use.
It must be original
In collaboration with IXO, we would now like to launch our own kit on the market. Our choice fell on the Mercedes 300 SL Roadster. IXO had already shown this model a few years ago in the form of a prototype, but had not yet produced it in series. Our aim is to realise this model with the quality standards of modelcars24. The correct shape, detailing and attractive design are our top priorities. The construction process should also be fun for inexperienced modellers. For research purposes, we have already had the opportunity to inspect a perfectly restored Mercedes 300 SL Roadster at the Brabus company in Bottrop.
In order to realise the best Mercedes 300 SL Roadster kit, we would like to take our customers, specialists and clubs on this exciting journey. At the moment, everything revolves around the colour scheme of the model. We have largely followed the suggestions from the original Mercedes sales manual. We have shown our favourites below using an AI image tool. The images can be enlarged by clicking on them.

the current status as of 28 July 2025
Our model will be light blue metallic!
Thank you very much for your support in the development of our Mercedes 300 SL Roadster kit! We had asked you to choose the colour for the body and interior. Now we are pleased to present the result: It will be a light blue metallic, DB353, with a beige interior - a very beautiful and elegant colour combination. The hardtop will also be painted in light blue metallic.
The kit is developed in co-operation with IXO. It contains a pre-painted metal body. All parts are clearly arranged in separate boxes according to construction phase. Assembly is carried out using screws only - gluing is not required. The Mercedes is limited to 380 units and can be pre-ordered now. The release date is planned for autumn 2026.
