Description
Schuco MARTINI Porsche Racing Transporter
In the early days of motorsport, from the beginning of the 20th century well into the 1930s, a large proportion of the highly tuned racing cars were still transported under their own power from the factories to famous race tracks like Le Mans, Monza, the Nürburgring, or the notorious Targa Florio in Sicily. With the beginning of the sport's professionalisation, from around the mid-1930s onwards, the development of specialised transport vehicles, the so-called race transporters, began. For instance, in the mid-1960s, Porsche had two transport vehicles custom-built based on the Mercedes-Benz O317 bus chassis, specifically tailored to the needs of its racing department.
The two racing transporters were used by the Porsche racing department until the 1980s and were also adapted over the years to the design of the respective main sponsor. Due to their rather box-like design, the Porsche racing transporters were soon rather jokingly referred to as „furniture vans“. The white-painted transporter of the MARTINI-Porsche racing team, which forms the basis of our finely detailed Schuco model, was used from the mid-seventies and replaced its silver-coloured MARTINI-Racing predecessor.
