Weighing the monopostos, painted in gleaming white, revealed a weight of 751 kg. A real disaster, because that means a ban from the starting grid. But the Mercedes crew didn't give up that easily. That extra kilo has to go - but how? In the end, an ingenious solution is found: the only thing that is not needed is the paintwork! So the racing cars are completely sanded down in a long and sweaty night shift.<br \/>\nIn the morning, a racing car with a shiny silver aluminium body is at the start, weighing exactly 750 kg - and wins. A furious success for Mercedes-Benz and the winner Manfred von Brauchitsch. The enthusiastic press christened the racing car the \u201eSilver Arrow\u201c. And rightly so: out of eight Grand Prix races organised in the first racing season, the silver speedsters won four first and three second places.
