The newly presented Jaguar E-Type at the Geneva Motor Show gave cause for this. They saw it as a serious competitor and feared losing their supremacy in the racing world.
Enzo Ferrari acted immediately and commissioned Giotto Bizzarrini as project manager to develop a new GT vehicle. Bizzarrini used the tried-and-tested 250 GT/SWB as an experimental vehicle. It was clear that the chassis should remain as unchanged as possible with the same wheelbase of 2,400 mm. The focus was on the rear axle, body aerodynamics and the vehicle's centre of gravity, which were improved step by step.
The homologation was now finalised with the new type designation 250 GTO, with the „O“ standing for the Italian word „Omologate“. Due to the famous „palace revolution“ against Enzo Ferrari, some of the responsible GTO developers, including Bizzarrini, had to leave the factory.
His successor was Mauro Foghieri, who finalised the vehicle together with coachbuilder Sergio Scaglietti. The new GTO was presented to the world press in Maranello in February 1962 with a phenomenally beautiful body.
Its first race outing was in 1962 at the 12 Hours of Sebring/USA, where the driver duo Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien won the GT class and finished second overall in the entire field. From then on, things only went upwards; in 1962, 1963 and 1964, Ferrari was able to secure the one-make world championship with the GTO.
A total of 39 GTO vehicles were built, 3 of them with a four-litre engine.

Item number: M-151-2

[537
18,63,45,136,21

0":"post-5438","1":"product","2":"type-product","3":"status-publish","4":"has-post-thumbnail","6":"product_brand-cmc","7":"product_cat-cmc","8":"product_cat-ferrari","9":"product_cat-neuzugang","10":"product_cat-raritaet","11":"product_cat-verfuegbar","12":"pa_automarke-ferrari","13":"pa_decade-1960s","14":"pa_fahrzeugtyp-coupe","15":"pa_farbe-silber","16":"pa_limitiert-nein","17":"pa_massstab-1-18","18":"pa_modelmarke-cmc","19":"pa_modeltyp-alles-zum-oeffnen","20":"pa_modeltyp-fertigmodell","21":"pa_status-beim-hersteller-ausverkauft","22":"pa_verfuegbarkeit-sofort-verfuegbar","23":"pa_zustand_modell-1-brandneu","24":"pa_zustand_verpackung-1-brandneu","26":"first","27":"outofstock","28":"purchasable","29":"product-type-simple
["GET
