Its celebrated charisma is owed not only to countless race victories but also to the unique sum of its parts. A 2,953cc Columbo V12 engine coupled with a new 5-speed gearbox and a bodywork designed by Sergio Scaglietti on a 250 GT chassis; the 250 GTO represented the pinnacle of 250 GT development in competition form, whilst remaining a legitimate road car. In recent years, original examples have repeatedly set price records. Chassis 3413 GT was auctioned in 2018 for $48.4 million, and later in the same year Chassis 4153 GT was sold in a private sale for a reported $70 million.

The 250 GTO was built on a 2400mm wheelbase and although the chassis was constructed to the same guidelines as the 250 GT SWB from which it was derived, smaller diameter tubing and additional bracing were used for increased torsional rigidity. Disc brakes were fitted to all four wheels with a cable operated handbrake acting on the rear wheels. The 3-litre V12 engine was essentially a 250 TR specification unit and produced a claimed output of 300bhp coupled to a new 5-speed all-synchromesh gearbox.

The early development of the new car was shrouded in secrecy. Giotto Bizzarrini was commissioned to develop a car to rival and beat the Jaguar E-Type. On its first appearance at Monza in September 1961, prior to the Italian Grand Prix, the 250 GTO was nicknamed „Il Mostro“ (the Monster) due to its crudely crafted and poorly fitting prototype bodywork. During shakedown tests, Stirling Moss drove the car to times far faster than had ever been achieved with a similar chassis. Later in the year, a „palace revolution“ followed and Bizzarrini was the sole outsider. The refinement of the GTO bodywork was now entrusted to Sergio Scaglietti, who created its final shape. The overall form of the aluminium bodies designed and built by Scaglietti changed little during the 36-vehicle production run spanning 1962 and 1963. The final three cars in the series, built in 1964, were however fitted with bodywork designed by Pininfarina and built by Scaglietti in a style very similar to that of the mid-engined 250 LM sports racer. While the overall body shape did not change significantly, there were definitely differences in detail during production, as refinements were made throughout the car's construction.

The 250 GTO, unveiled at the annual pre-season Ferrari press conference in January 1962, was the only front-engined model in a line-up of mid-engined racing cars. New owners had to be able to afford its $18,000 price tag, and be approved personally by Enzo Ferrari. In its very first outing at the 12 Hours of Sebring, the 250 GTO driven by Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien finished second overall, behind a Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa. It also won the GT category with ease, six laps clear, an impressive debut that hinted at the dominant phase to come. Ferrari effortlessly secured the International Championship for GT Manufacturers in 1962 and 1963. The 250 GTO completed the hat-trick in 1964 by a narrower margin of six points, having only been matched in their final year of competition by Shelby’s competitive AC Cobras (powered by far larger V8 engines).

Among the 250 GTO's numerous international successes were victories in the 1963 and 1964 Tour de France, which extended Ferrari's winning streak to nine consecutive years; GT class wins at the 1962, 1963, and 1964 Targa Florio; wins at the 1962 and 1963 Goodwood Tourist Trophy; GT category wins at Le Mans in 1962 and 1963, and at the 1963 and 1964 Nürburgring 1000 km.

This beautiful 1:8 scale model depicts the Ferrari 250 GTO, which was first presented to the world in February 1962 at a press conference in Maranello. This model has been handmade using our own CAD data, created by scanning an original car in every detail. The resulting prototype underwent rigorous inspection by Ferrari to ensure absolute accuracy.

Item number: M5344-L54

[864
279,286,63,21
288,209,202
post-71642","product","type-product","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","product_brand-amalgam","product_cat-1-m","product_cat-amalgam","product_cat-ferrari","product_cat-verfuegbar","product_tag-amalgam","product_tag-ferrari","product_tag-verfuegbar","pa_automarke-ferrari","pa_decade-2020s","pa_fahrzeugtyp-coupe","pa_massstab-1-8","pa_modelmarke-amalgam","pa_modeltyp-alles-zum-oeffnen","pa_modeltyp-fertigmodell","pa_status-beim-hersteller-verfuegbar","pa_verfuegbarkeit-5-tage-lieferzeit","pa_zustand_modell-1-brandneu","pa_zustand_verpackung-1-brandneu","first","instock","taxable","shipping-taxable","purchasable","product-type-simple
["GET
