La carrera constituy\u00f3 la octava prueba del Campeonato del Mundo de Marcas de ese a\u00f1o. Unas importantes novedades en los reglamentos t\u00e9cnicos y deportivos marcaron esta edici\u00f3n: se elimin\u00f3 el l\u00edmite de cilindrada anterior de 3000 cm\u00b3 para los veh\u00edculos del Grupo 6 y ahora se permit\u00eda el cambio de motor hasta justo antes de la salida.<\/p>\n<p>Estas amplias modificaciones llevaron a Porsche a regresar a Le Mans a gran escala como equipo oficial de f\u00e1brica, despu\u00e9s de tres derrotas anteriores y una presencia solo parcial el a\u00f1o anterior. El modelo actual representa exactamente el <strong>Porsche 936\/81 Turbo<\/strong> con el dorsal 12. Pilotado por el tr\u00edo de pilotos Mass, Schuppan y Haywood, este coche de carreras alcanz\u00f3 el puesto 12 en la clasificaci\u00f3n general.
