La gara costitu\u00ec l'ottava tappa del Campionato del Mondo Sportprototipi di quell'anno. Significative novit\u00e0 nel regolamento tecnico e sportivo caratterizzarono questa edizione: il precedente limite di cilindrata per le vetture del Gruppo 6 di 3000 cm\u00b3 fu abolito e fu consente un cambio del motore fino a poco prima della partenza.<\/p>\n<p>Queste ampie modifiche spinsero Porsche, dopo tre precedenti sconfitte e una presenza solo parziale l'anno precedente, a ripresentarsi a Le Mans a pieno titolo come squadra ufficiale. Il modello in questione riproduce esattamente il <strong>Porsche 936\/81 Turbo<\/strong> partendo con il numero di gara 12. Pilotata dal trio di piloti Mass, Schuppan e Haywood, questa vettura da corsa ha raggiunto il dodicesimo posto nella classifica generale.
